This site is a work in progress; Currently, it is intended to serve as the outline of a talk, Building High Traffic and Scalable Businesses with Drupal to be given at the upcoming DrupalCon in Barcelona.
My hope is that over time this site will be expanded and become a comprehensive set of resources and documents…
- so that individuals or business evaluating Drupal as an application framework, or to power their high traffic site have a solid starting point from which to learn about Drupal, and to voice and address their concerns
- that people using Drupal for high profile and high traffic sites have a place to share ideas, tips, patches, and work together
- and of course so that we encourage more companies to use Drupal!
If you are an individual or representative of a company that builds high traffic Drupal sites, or if you are evaluating or have evaluated Drupal as a scalable application framework you are encouraged to participate and help build out this site.
If you are looking for an overview of the various different CMS options, you are in the wrong place.

FAQ - the most common questions and concerns that come up when evaluating Drupal as a scalable platform
- What high traffic sites, or high profile brands use Drupal?
- FAIL: no listing/asnwer, requires to much research
- TO PASS: we need a comprehensive listing of high traffic sites, along with some case studies, and ideally greater insight into the number of installs and current usage
- Drupal offers many things to many people, are these at odds with each other, and can something that works primarily on a shared box scale to meet my high traffic needs?
- FAIL: no clearly documented answers on this, requires to much research
- TO PASS: much better documentation and information on the topic
- Does Drupal scale out of the box?
- MISNOMER - nothing will (ignoring the rest of the stack/setup even), but i'd lean towards FAIL again as nothing really addresses this, and it does require lots of patches, tweaks, hardcore caching, etc. and you need to know someone who knows someone to get at this information, it's not accessible or well organized afik
- TO PASS: much better documentation and information on the topic, a community dedicated to sharing and organizing patches, tweaks, tips, ideas, etc. for scaling drupal
